On Thursday the 12th of January 2017, The National Solid Waste Management Programme launched its “Investment Component”. The Investment Component aims to support the implementation of environmentally sound and climate-friendly municipal solid waste management systems and the related infrastructure in the selected four Governorates (Gharbeya, Kafr El Sheikh, Assiut and Qena) according to national laws and regulations.
The total Programme budget is 61 Million Euro approximately (which is 20 M € grant from European Union, 12 M€ as a loan from KfW and 3 M€ as a grant, 10 M€ as a grant from SECO and the Egyptian contribution equivalent to 17.5 M€).
The Programme aims to the establishment and implementation of effective policy, legislation and institutional arrangements for waste management at the national, governmental and local level in Egypt, coupled with the implementation of related infrastructure in the project regions in the partner Governorates.
