On 11-12 May 2016, the National Solid Waste Management Programme (NSWMP) conducted the second round of basic “Integrated Solid Waste Management Planning” training in Cairo for representatives from five governorates: Dahakleya, Sharakeya, Menofeya, Kaliubeya and Damietta. The training was requested by the Waste Management Regulatory Agency (WMRA) in order to enable the governorates to do waste planning and coordinate with the national level.
The training focused on providing the essential knowledge for developing a basic solid waste management plan including the technical, financial, institutional, environmental & legal requirements. They were introduced to the “Strategic Directives for Solid Waste Management”, which were published in 2014 by the Ministry of Environment. During the course of the training, participants were engaged in developing a solid waste plan for an imaginary city putting into application the theoretical knowledge they acquired.
This training will be conducted for all the 27 governorates of Egypt. The Governorates Bani Suef, Al Minya, New Valley, Fayyoum and Assiut were trained on 19-21 April 2016 in Cairo.
