In accordance with the concept of consultation, consensus and involvement of stakeholders and partners of the Pilot project on “Waste Fluorescent Lamps Collection in Alexandria”. The hazardous waste management component of The National Solid Waste Management Programme held a workshop on Thursday 27th of July 2017 in Cecil Hotel in Alexandria in order to come up with document to be ratified by all the partner and abide by the provisions stipulated to become a milestone for continuous and constructive cooperation in the context of implementing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system. In order to achieve the workshop objectives, the organizers were keen on the active participation of all relevant stakeholders including; Al-Nasserya Center for Hazardous Waste treatment, Environmental Studies Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, waste management regulatory authority, Major manufacturing companies of Fluorescent lamps (Toshiba and NEEASSA), Public Relations and Awareness in Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency Alexandria branch and representatives from Health Directorate in Alexandria Governorate.
The first session of the workshop focused on the initial work plan that was discussed later during the second session, in addition to agreeing on holding an opening meeting for the project which is expected to take place in the last quarter of August.
The pilot project is one of the projects and activities carried out by the National Solid Waste Management Programme, with the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, as well as the main partners of the programme (EU Commission, German Development Cooperation and Egyptian Ministry of Environment).
The National Solid Waste Management Programme is implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) which implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
